R B Talbot-Kelly R.B. Talbot Kelly 1896-1971.A truly fascinating artist who was strongly influenced by the Ancient Egyptians and the Chinese. His watercolours reflected the environment and the actions of birds and he approached bird painting from a completely different perspective than many of his contemporaries. His work was often straight from memory and spontaneous. Coupled with an economical, non-overworked style his use of ink allowed him to select the elements of character and form which were emphasised to great effect.

Keith Shackleton Keith Shackleton was born in 1923.Although primarily a wildlife artist, he is also an exceptional marine painter and is known for exciting interpretations of antarctic wildlife and sea birds. John James Audubon Audubon drew birds from life whenever possible rather than from specimens alone. He did, indeed, shoot specimens that he wired and propped into life-like positions as models for his paintings. Of equal or greater importance, he spent much of his life traveling the continent observing the birds (and animals) in remarkable depth and detail. He studied the creatures in all of their plumages. He attempted to tease out mysteries of aberrant plumages and apparent hybrids. He took note of the birds' food and habitat preferences meticulously. And, he watched them move, interact, and behave. He strove for action and reality; this was a new approach to the painting of birds.
Keith Brockie Keith Brockie's remarkable artistry and his extraordinary sensitivity to wildlife are superbly displayed in his books. Exquisite paintings and sketches - from the island of May in the Firth of Forth, and the River Tay in Scotland - They are breathtaking in their fidelity to their subjects.
Basil Ede Basil Ede, regarded as the foremost bird artist in the world today, has created here a collection of his best-known works.
Eric Ennion Eric Ennion was a unique but not widely known genius of British wildlife painting. A Cambridge doctor with a passion for nature, he gave up medicine to pioneer Field Study Centres and to write, to broadcast and above all, to draw and paint the birds he knew with a first-hand experience seldom equalled by any artist.

Terence Lambert Terence Lambert's birds have a freshness about them which I find delightful....I hope others will share my enthusiasm for his talent..... Peter Scott
George Lodge The world which studies birds has sought out George E Lodge to good purpose. Those who can appreciate this wonderful combination of painstaking and artistic genius have used his paintings in many publications that are known to have the stamp of authority, for those drawings have a two-fold value, they are a delight to the casual beholder and at the same time satisfy the critical eye of the expert ornithologist.
Darren Rees Darren Rees has a passion for painting and a passion for birds. His style is a refreshing departure from the more conventional norms of wildlife art.Using the medium of watercolours with a bold yet traditional technique he captures so effectively the light, the form and the essence of birds. His impressions are blocks of colour and strokes of paint arranged to convey life.Darren Rees is now recognised as one of the country's leading bird artists.
Archibold Thorburn Thorburns beautifully illustrated books first began to appear in March 1915, and as each of the original four volumes was published, so a new edition of the previous volume was being prepared.By February 1918 a total of ten editions had appeared, and the books had become established as classics of wild life illustration.
C F Tunnicliffe Charles Tunnicliffe is widely recognised as one of the finest natural history artists of the last century.Since his death in 1979 several books about his work have been published, including the first book of his bird sketches, A Sketchbook of Birds', which was a revelation - and a bestseller.During his life, he wrote and illustrated only six books (although he was a prolific illustrator of others' work). Foremost among his books is undoubtedly Shorelands summer diary (1952), a masterpiece, and now a highly prized collectors' item.
Donald Watson Having spent most of his life in Scotland, Donald Watson will be well known to birders. His magnificent watercolours and sketches appear in many of the excellent Poyser series of books and his 'own' Poyser - 'The Hen Harrier' is simply one of the greatest ornithological works ever written.
