R B Talbot-KellyR B Talbot-Kelly
R.B. Talbot Kelly 1896-1971.A truly fascinating artist who was strongly influenced by the Ancient Egyptians and the Chinese. His watercolours reflected the environment and the actions of birds and he approached bird painting from a completely different perspective than many of his contemporaries. His work was often straight from memory and spontaneous. Coupled with an economical, non-overworked style his use of ink allowed him to select the elements of character and form which were emphasised to great effect.
Eric EnnionEric Ennion
Eric Ennion was a unique but not widely known genius of British wildlife painting. A Cambridge doctor with a passion for nature, he gave up medicine to pioneer Field Study Centres and to write, to broadcast and above all, to draw and paint the birds he knew with a first-hand experience seldom equalled by any artist.
C F TunnicliffeC F Tunnicliffe
Charles Tunnicliffe is widely recognised as one of the finest natural history artists of the last century.Since his death in 1979 several books about his work have been published, including the first book of his bird sketches, A Sketchbook of Birds', which was a revelation - and a bestseller.During his life, he wrote and illustrated only six books (although he was a prolific illustrator of others' work). Foremost among his books is undoubtedly Shorelands summer diary (1952), a masterpiece, and now a highly prized collectors' item.

Donald WatsonDonald Watson
Having spent most of his life in Scotland, Donald Watson will be well known to birders. His magnificent watercolours and sketches appear in many of the excellent Poyser series of books and his 'own' Poyser - 'The Hen Harrier' is simply one of the greatest ornithological works ever written. A writer and ornithologist, his paintings show a man well studied in both birds and the natural environment in which they frequent.
