L31-38cm.Extremely rare vagrant from North America.Could easily be mistaken for Little Grebe but larger than that species. Sometimes banded bill which is thicker than Little Grebe is visible, but tends to be horn-coloured and is often described as looking 'chicken-like'. Generally brownish upperparts to body with white undertail.
