Birds and Wild Africa |

William Condry. Many books have been written about the game animals of East Africa; far less has so far been said about wild life deeper into the interior where East and Central Africa meet. In particular, most of the birds have had comparatively little mention although this is one of the great bird regions of the world. Still less has been said about insects, wild plants and trees. In this book William Condry attempts to redress the balance. From a base in the sparsely populated northern end of Zambia he visited the little known and very wild region that extends down the Western Rift Valley from Lake Tanganyika to the Poroto Mountains north of Lake Nyasa. He has given us a lively and fresh account of this spectacular region of rift, plateau and mountain along the Zambia flood-plain country around Lake Rukwa, a region that is far from any national park and is still a true wilderness very rich in wild life, especially birds. Mr Condry's home is in Wales. That he has an observant eye is already demonstrated by his book about the Snowdonia National park. Now he has taken an equally discerning look at wilderness Africa. Ian Sinclair. Ian Sinclair's field guide to the Birds of Southern Africa is unique in that it is the first to use full-colour photographs to identify the more than 900 species known to occur from Antarctica to the Zambezi River. Of the many thousands of colour photographs submitted by leading professional and amateur bird photographers ,those showing most clearly the colouring and characteristics of each bird were finally selected. The book is divided into more than 150 plates, each grouping similar birds which are often difficult to distinguish in the field. Facing every plate is a succinct, comparative description drawing attention to those diagnostic or distinctive characters that make field identification easy. Many of the identification criteria used are the original work of this highly respected author-the result of many years of practical field observation world-wide. The Birds of Natal and Zululand |

£95.00 | P. A. Clancey has engaged in extensive original research over the years since I950 in order to make this account of the birds of Natal and Zululand and all the immediately adjacent territories of south-eastern Africa as up-to-date and authoritative as possible. No work on South African birds since the early 1900's has given such detailed descriptions of each species, and much information, hitherto available only in museum and specialised ornithological publications, has been collected together in this volume for the first time. The author has followed closely the arrangement and findings on the birds of the province embodied in his own work A Preliminary List of the Birds of Natal and Zululand, published by the Durban Museum in 1953...More details here |

The Birds of North Africa from the Canary Islands to the Red Sea SALE ! |

R.D Etchecopar & Francois Hue (translated
by P.A.D Hollom) mapTo provide a comprehensive bird book dealing authoritatively with the huge and varied regions of North Africa, from the Canary Islands to the Red Sea, is no mean feat. This book is a revised version of the French edition which achieves this successfully. The are incorporates an amazing mixture of bird life-Mediterranean and middle Eastern, some tropical while most of the European species occur as migrants if they do not also breed, the migrants including some subspecies distinct from resident North African races. In view of the extent of the subject the authors have considered the matter as much as possible to the basic essentials necessary for the rapid identification of the birds, without in any way limiting the scope of the book. Its value is greatly increased by the maps showing the breeding ranges of the birds within the area. Such a guide is something which has not been available before, and the book provides the ideal vade mecum for the ornithologist traveller in North Africa. The illustrations are by the well-known artist Paul Barreul.
