The Birds of Bardsey

Peter Roberts

' Bardsey, or Ynys Enlli to give it its proper Welsh name, lies just over 3km south of the tip of the Lleyn peninsula in north Wales. Nearly 3km long north to south, just over 1km at its widest, it can be seen from the map that it falls into two main blocks of land joined by a narrow isthmus. From the mainland it appears an inhospitable lump of rock rising to 167 metres ;all that can be seen is the precipitous hump of the east facing side with its bare, steep slopes of sparse grass, rock and scree falling away to low cliffs and boulder beaches at sea level........'
