£75.00 | C.F Tunnicliffe.' In my search for and study of birds, the mere's, pools and reservoirs of east
and mid-Cheshire have, for many years, been favourite hunting grounds. The waters themselves
are almost without exception, set in the midst of beautiful country, and, on those rare
occasions, when birds failed to appear, there was always the ever-changing scene with the
gleaming water to satisfy the eye, so that the drawing and painting of landscape was
inevitable, and inseparable from the drawing of birds....' Hardback. without d/w.200pp of shear magic ! Beautiful plate here 60kb |

£25.00 | Ian Naill. This book attempts to illustrate a sample from Tunnicliffe's
enormous output of work in its various facets. The superb early etchings are well
represented, as are his fine wood-engravings from the late 1930's.His watercolours, which

beautiful are the marvellous oils on cloth from 1938,little known but surely some of his
most lovely pictures. Ian Naill's affectionate portrait of his friend describes the life of
a warm-hearted, down-to-earth countryman, a totally dedicated artist whose genius lay in his
depiction of scenes from country life and in the most exquisite representations of wild
creatures. Hardback.160pp.Beautifully illustrated. Mint in D/w |

BIRD LIFE and the Painter |
![]() |
£45.00 | R B Talbot-Kelly.Studio publications
1955. map' R.B Talbot Kelly, at present Art Master at Rugby School, is probably one of today's greatest and most sympathetic painters of birds and has, through long and close study, acquired what he would term " some fraction of understanding of a bird's way of life." His experience transcends a mere knowledge of anatomy and habitat, or the superficial appeal of colourful plumage, and has given him a feeling for a bird's reactions to its own world; a feeling which can be sensed in the subtle qualities of his work." The Craftsmanship needed to paint birds," he says, " is no different from that required for landscape or figure composition, but the thinking which precedes the making of a work of art is special to each attempt. "To promote such thinking is the object of this book. It has been designed to equip the student of bird life with the means for extracting the fullest experience and delight from a subject of tremendous vitality. The many fine reproductions of the author's paintings, of which 16 are in colour, are masterpieces of delicacy and sensitive perception in a variety of treatments. This book will appeal as much to the birdwatcher and nature student as to the painter of birds. order details here Hardback;1955 Superbly illustrated by a true master. Condition v/good in d/w. |

Eric Ennion. Eric Ennion occupies a unique place amongst 20th
century wildlife artists. During his lifetime he did not receive the popular acclaim given
to some of his contemporaries but there is now a growing appreciation of his genius. He
captured the character and movement of birds with a conviction that has seldom been
equalled. Birds and Seasons has been compiled by Bob Walthew from Eric
Ennion's work spanning over 40 years. More than 70 paintings are reproduced in colour
including several of the superb watercolours exhibited in London in the 1930's and
numerous delightful examples of his later work. There are also 96 line drawings, mostly

Field Sketches |
![]() |
£60.00 SOLD | Michael warren. Ltd edition. Field painting and drawing is often the most direct way to make a
statement on a subject. Studio work is a different discipline, often
governed by demands
beyond the artist's own satisfaction. The American market demands a high degree of finish
in its artwork, whereas in Europe different strands of work can occupy their own niches in
the market. More details and illustrations here Hardback. Mint in protective cover. LTD edition. SOLD |
